“The little flame of creativity” – a coaching client’s discoveries

Recently one of my coaching clients and I were working through the subject of family scenarios. It is precisely this subject that often produces very deep realisations and conceals a great many treasures.

Although Svetlana came to me for a first consultation of her own accord and with specific requests, she assured me that everything was fine with her and that she was not sure she needed coaching. But she still wanted more. And how good it is that she decided to move forward and came to me — every week she shares discoveries that are simply indescribably valuable and important to her! I very much wanted you to be able to see them too, and she has agreed to share one of them with you today, in the hope of inspiring somebody! And it proves once again that there is always room for us to grow and develop.

“Inna, it is such a discovery for me that, as it turns out, in my striving for creativity and beauty I carry deep family values. There are a great many creative people in my lineage. The roots go very, very deep on both my father’s and my mother’s side. On my father’s side creativity was more of an outlet, an activity that brought joy after hard work. On my mother’s side, in the years before the 1917 revolution and in the hard war years and years of hunger, my relatives earned their living by what they did best — creative work!!! They sewed beautifully, so that people were glad to come to them; they sang and played musical instruments at celebrations. Later, on my mother’s side, creativity moved to the level of a hobby. My grandmother, working three shifts as a crane operator, built tanks — and at home she embroidered flowers all her life! My grandfather, a cutter and machine setter at a factory, would pick up the accordion at home, play and sing “Barynya”, and he blossomed in those minutes, his soul sang so! When he came to visit us from the Urals and saw that I had a piano in my room, he could not tear himself away from it!!! He picked out the touching “Slender Rowan” by ear on the spot. He always asked me about my progress in music with great interest. My mother, who worked as an engineer, would take ballet positions at home and open up in dance, could quickly sketch a portrait of a family member in pencil, takes wonderful photographs and has grown flowering cacti since childhood (a cactus flowers for less than a single day over a long period, and those hours bring my mother happiness).

And I, having received all this wealth in childhood and even developed my creative talents in my school years, began in adult life consciously to suppress my creative impulses as bringing no real benefit, as unnecessary childish weaknesses! To squeeze them out even as a hobby! I believed that I had no right to do this, to spend precious time on it. All the more so because, in contrast with other people’s hard labour, this striving for art was seen by me as nonsense, as a whim; I had an inferiority complex about it (people slave away while I fly about in the clouds).

And how my heart rejoices at the realisation that I am not simply able to keep all this out of some whim of my own, but that in myself I am affirming an effective model of my ancestors’ behaviour, a model that allows a person to turn to their soul and hear themselves! It would probably even be a kind of betrayal of my lineage to forcibly extinguish this little flame of creativity in myself because other wonderful people lived (or live) differently. I am a carrier of the values of many generations, I am the continuation of my own unique lineage — one that strives for celebration, for joy, for happiness, that knows how not only to earn and toil routinely but also to bring its talents to life. And I keep my little flame of creativity; let it burn, it keeps me warm. And if the mother of a family is warm inside, peace in the house blossoms…”

Those are the astonishing discoveries my client made after the topic of family lineage values! And anyone who also wants to come to their own incredible discoveries, even if you do not entirely believe in it yourself, write to me at inly@list.ru and I may be able to take you into personal coaching if your request resonates with me!
